Attachment Services
![]()
Attachment relationships are the unique and lasting emotional ties formed between infants and their parents. The attachment relationship forms the basis from which all other relationships are developed and impacts on a child’s emotional, cognitive and social development and can result in the development of intergenerational behavioural patterns.
ATWC offers a range of different types of Attachment Therapy:
- Parent and Infant Psychotherapy
- Wait, Watch and Wonder technique with pre-verbal and pre-school children and their caregivers
- Parent and Child Therapy
- Video feedback sessions
There is an urgent need to expand ATWC’s Attachment Services to meet demand within the Auckland community. At any one time a significant number of ATWC clients could benefit enormously from Attachment Therapy. Add to this those within the wider community who need Attachment Therapy and the demand is significant.
The nature of Attachment Therapy is that it relies on early intervention for its effectiveness, so ATWC is keen to expand its service this year. ATWC would like to establish an Attachment clinic, provide specialist Attachment Therapy training for six child psychotherapists, and establish a supporting research programme.
To expand its Attachment service ATWC needs support from the Auckland community it serves. Please give generously by visiting our donate now page.
“Current university and clinical research is making it clear that for individuals with an unhealthy attachment, the basic capacities for emotional health are severely compromised.”
Bert Powell, Co-Founder of Circle of Security Project at Marycliff Institute and the University of Virginia, USA
“In my experience, interventions that focus on enhancing the early primary-caregiver-infant relationship, the attachment relationship will have a significant positive impact on the long term social and emotional outcomes for children. I support the ATWC initiative to expand their Attachment Services”
