Early Childhood Education
![]()
The Early Childhood Education Programme is designed to help families fi nd and enrol their children in an early childhood education service.
There are many types of early childhood services to choose from. Each type has its own way of working with children and their families. Some offer full day education and care, some only part day. Some are led by trained teachers; and others, parents, whanau or caregivers provide the education. In choosing a service, families need to think about what’s important to them and what will be best for their child.
How does it work?
The programme is available to all families who have children from newborn to fi ve years and is responsive and sensitive to cultural and social beliefs.
An ECE Co-ordinator will visit the family and talk to them about early childhood education and establish the type of early childhood service the family would like for their child.
The ECE Co-ordinator will provide the family with information about early childhood services in their area, or any other specifi ed area. If desired, the Co-ordinator will take families to visit these services.
Once the family has chosen a service that best meets their needs and those of their child, the ECE Co-ordinator will support the family through the process and provide ongoing support if needed.
